Date: MON 08/08/1994

A Houston police officer working security at a southeast night club shot and killed an armed man while trying to break up a fight in the parking lot Sunday morning.

Officer David M. Boling, a 10-year veteran, opened fire on Morse Wayne Holland when Holland pointed a shotgun at the officer about 1:25 a.m. outside the Cue Club, 5259 Griggs, police said. Holland, 21, died at the scene.

Holland had been in a fight at the club earlier and went outside to get his pump-action shotgun, police said. Boling, who was in uniform, went out to the parking lot to break up a fight when he noticed Holland kneeling beside a car.

The officer ordered Holland to drop the weapon, but, police said, he instead pointed it at the officer.
