HOUSTON—Charges were pending against a suspect wounded by a Houston police officer Thursday.
Police said the suspect, Ayinde Ekundayo Jordan, 30, will be charged with interference with 911 emergency calls after they say he forcefully took his wife’s cell phone to prevent her from calling 911 during a fight.
Police were called to Jordan’s apartment complex, located in the 3400 block of Woodchase, around 3:40 a.m. Thursday.
When the officer arrived, he said he heard a woman yelling. He followed the noise to an apartment, and fearing for her safety, entered the unit. The officer said he walked in to find Jordan holding a knife in a threatening manner over the woman, later identified as his wife.
The officer said he told Jordan to stop, but Jordan instead turned and faced the officer.
According to investigators, Jordan ignored two requests to drop the knife, so the officer discharged his weapon, striking Jordan in the hip.
Jordan was taken to Memorial Hermann, where he was treated and released.
As is customary in HPD officer-involved shootings, the incident is being investigated by HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs, as well as the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
