Armed Suspect Wounded at 3400 Woodchase

April 15, 2010

Charges are pending against an armed suspect wounded by a Houston police officer at 3400 Woodchase about 3:40 a.m. today.

The suspect, Ayinde Ekundayo Jordan (b/m, DOB: 8-26-79), is facing a charge of interference with 911 emergency calls after it was determined he forcefully took his wife’s cell phone to prevent her from calling 911. Jordan, who suffered a gunshot wound to his right hip, was treated and released from Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital.

Officer T. Tomeo, who discharged his weapon, was not injured. Officer Tomeo was sworn in as an officer in February 1997 and is assigned to the Westside Patrol Division.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant K.R. Tolls and Officer J.L. French reported:

Officer Tomeo arrived to a disturbance call at an apartment complex at 3400 Woodchase. As he approached an apartment building, he heard the disturbance and was able to locate the specific apartment number. The officer heard a female yelling and, fearing for her safety, made entry into the apartment. Once inside, the officer saw a male (Jordan) holding a knife in a threatening manner over the female. Officer Tomeo ordered Jordan to stop, but Jordan turned and faced the officer with the knife in his hand. The officer ordered Jordan twice to drop the knife, but Jordan refused to do so. Fearing for his safety and the safety of the female, Officer Tomeo then discharged his weapon and struck Jordan in the hip.

As is customary in HPD officer-involved shooting incidents in the city limits, the incident is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions as well as the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
