HOUSTON -- A Harris County sheriff's deputy fatally shot a man and his dog on Friday, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Deputies said there was an assault at a sports bar, and a deputy went to the suspect's home on Beckett Ridge Drive near Woodland Hills.

Investigators said the suspect, identified as Christopher Lee Brooks, 26, answered the door while armed with a rifle.

Brooks put the rifle down, but ordered his pit bull to attack the deputy, detectives said.

The deputy tried to take Brooks into custody and a struggle ensued. The deputy tried to use the Taser gun on the suspect, but it was ineffective.

Brooks took the Taser gun from the deputy and put it against the deputy as if he was going to shock him, investigators said.

Detectives said the deputy pulled out his gun and fatally shot Brooks, who died at the scene.

The dog was also shot and killed.

The deputy, who has been with the Harris County Sheriff's Office for 19 years, was not injured.
