HPD shoots, kills female robbery suspect

HOUSTON – A woman, who allegedly robbed a homeowner at gunpoint, was shot and killed by a Houston police officer early Thursday.

HPD said the woman and another male suspect robbed a homeowner on Beechnut at Jorine around 1:30 a.m. They took his cell phone, laptop, cash and several other items before fleeing in a white Dodge Neon.

The victim followed the suspects without their knowledge to the Mills apartments on Bissonet at Forum Park, watched them park and drove to a pay phone to call police.

Two HPD units arrived within 15 minutes and the victim led police to the suspects.

Police spotted the young woman, who appeared to be in her early 20s, walking toward the Dodge Neon. The officer ordered the woman to stop and raise her hands, but she did not comply.

Police said the woman suddenly turned and pointed a gun at police. Officer D. Hoang, in fear for his life and the safety of others, opened fire. He shot one time, striking the woman who died at the scene.

Police later found the male suspect and placed him under arrest. The robbery victim’s property was found in the back seat of the Neon.

Officer Hoang is a nine-year veteran of the force.
