HARRIS COUNTY, Texas -- A deputy was hit by a driver and almost hit again as he tried to defuse a situation on a busy highway late Saturday, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Investigators said the Harris County sheriff's deputy approached a car, which was stopped in the middle of the North Freeway near F.M. 1960 at about 11 p.m.

He saw the driver had a gun in his lap and tried to grab it, according to authorities.

The deputy said the driver hit him with his car and then tried to run over him.

The deputy shot at the car, wounding the driver in the hand, investigators said.

When the man got out and tried to run, the deputy shocked him with a Taser gun.

The deputy is OK. The suspect was taken to the hospital.
