HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A driver is in the hospital after investigators say a deputy shot him and shocked him with a Taser.

It happened around 11pm last night on the North Freeway near North Vista. Deputies say they were called out to a car stopped in a moving lane. When the deputy walked up to the vehicle, he noticed a gun in the driver's lap.

The deputy reached in and grabbed the gun. That's when the driver put the car in reverse and apparently tried to run the deputy over. Authorities say the deputy feared for his life and started shooting. The suspect ended up crashing into a retaining wall.

"The suspect gets out of the vehicle and attempts to flee and the deputy Tasers him," said Deputy Janie Wagner with the Harris County Sheriff's Office. "The suspect was then taken into custody."

The suspect was taken to the hospital and listed as stable. The deputy was not hurt.
