Armed Suspect Wounded at 2900 West Sam Houston Parkway

May 21, 2010 - Charges are pending against an armed suspect who was wounded after shooting at Houston police officers at 2900 West Sam Houston Parkway South about 8:40 p.m. on Thursday (May 20).

The suspect, Eddie Lee Moore (b/m, DOB: 10-11-72), faces charges of aggravated assault of a police officer and felon in possession of a firearm. Moore suffered a gunshot wound to the right thigh and was transported to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital where he was treated and then taken into custody.

Officers B. L. Hall and K. L. Raven, who discharged their duty weapons, were not injured in this incident. Officers Hall and Raven, assigned to the Vice Division, were sworn in as officers in February 1993 and December 2001, respectively.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant R. Torres and Officer J. Johnston reported:

In response to complaints from hotel management, HPD vice officers were conducting an undercover prostitution operation at the hotel at the above address. Investigators contacted a female prostitute advertising her services on a web site and arranged for her to meet an undercover officer at the hotel. Investigators were later informed the female was brought to the motel by her pimp, Moore. After the female agreed to perform sexual acts for money, Officers Raven and Hall came into the room and took her into custody. At some point during the arrest, Moore called the female’s cell phone and when she did not answer, started banging on the door of the hotel room. As officers were preparing to open the door, Moore opened the door, pointed a gun at Officer Hall and shot at him. Fearing for his safety and that of his fellow officers, Officer Hall returned fire. Officer Raven then opened the door of the adjoining room, saw Moore shooting at Officer Hall and, concerned for their safety, also returned fire and struck Moore.

As is customary in all HPD officer-involved shootings in the city limits, this case will be investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions, and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
