Police have arrested an aggravated assault suspect who was wounded by a Houston police officer he allegedly tried to run over in northwest Houston on Monday, authorities said.

Edward Tremayne Jamison, 34, is charged with aggravated assault against a public servant, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, felony evading and felon in possession of a weapon.

Authorities said the incident happened around 5:30 p.m. in the 1300 block of West Donovan where Jamison allegedly blocked a woman driving down the street with his vehicle and approached her with a pistol.

The woman was able to get away and call police. When patrol officers were speaking to the woman, Jamison returned to the scene, authorities said.

After ignoring commands from officers to stop, Jamison attempted to run over Officer E.V. Athmejvar while fleeing the scene, authorities said.

Officer Athmejvar fired several times and struck Jamison and his vehicle, authorities said. Jamison then crashed into a parked car before fleeing on foot.

On Tuesday, Jamison surrendered to investigators at Ben Taub General Hospital without incident. After being treated and released for wounds he suffered in the incident, Jamison was questioned and admitted to his involvement in the above incidents, authorities said. Jamison is being held without bond in Harris County Jail.

HPD homicide and internal affairs officers, along with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, are investigating the officer-involved shooting.
