Shoplifting suspects lead police on high speed chase
Pearland-resident Crystal Scott, 43, was arrested and now faces felony charges of Evading Arrest in a Vehicle and misdemeanor charges of Reckless Driving, Theft-Shoplifting and Driving with an Invalid License Invalid. Houston-resident Katrine Barley, 35, was arrested and charged with Theft-Shoplifting.

Unidentified man, 19, w/m dies after HPD Westside Patrol Officer E. Richardson chased him because he saw the driver spinning his wheels. Unidentified teenage girl, injured when a car being chased by unidentified Harris County sheriff's deputies crashes into a parked car, sending it into the teen's home.
Unidentified female, killed when her SUV is struck from behind by a speeding patrol car reportedly responding to a call. Police claim his lights and siren were on and that the SUV had run a red light.
Demarcus Celestine, 16, killed when the car he was riding in crashed during a chase by unidentified Harris County deputy constable. Constables claimed the car, driven by another 16-yr. old, was stolen.
Oliver Hampton, 46, killed during police chase when he was ejected from his car after hitting a curb. Undercover officers claim they saw Hampton stealing from a car in a sting operation, and began chasing him.
Ricardo Moreira, h/m, 43, and Israel Moreira, h/m, 36 (brothers), are killed when a pickup being chased by three patrol cars driven by Harris County sheriff’s deputies slams into their car. The persons being chased had stolen a few cartons of cigarettes from a convenience store valued at $150 (a misdemeanor). The driver of the pickup was charged with murder, and his passenger was charged with evading arrest and theft; another female passenger wasn’t charged.
Donnie Jerome Goston, b/m, 28, killed after a 15-minute car chase. Houston police officer H.A. Whillock said she saw Gostons car weaving, called for backup then began chasing him. After Goston lost control and crashed into a concrete barrier on a freeway overpass, Whillock claims he came toward her then climbed over the guardrail and jumped 30 to 40 feet onto the freeway below.
Marcia Larkin, 16, killed when her car crashed after being chased by Harris County Precinct 4 constable deputies and Tomball police at speeds in excess of 100 mph. Marcia had run away from home.
Miguel Zalaya, h/m, 28, killed, and Jorge Martinez, h/m, 20, and Daniel Balderas, h/m, 27, seriously injured when their car crashes during chase by Deputy Constable Chris Alonzo. Police say Alonzo had stopped them for speeding, and they "sped off" as he walked toward the car. Zalaya was a passenger in the back seat.
Unidentified 19 year-old man, unarmed, chased in his pickup by Galveston County sheriff’s deputy and DPS trooper after his mother calls police, fearing he is suicidal. Shots are fired during the chase. He suffers minor injuries when his truck crashes.
Ascencion Pina, 53, and Ruperta Pina, and three children, injured when a truck being chased by unidentified Harris County sheriff’s deputies hits their pickup. The two being chased, Richard Dil, 20, and Dax Dove, 17, were also injured.
Janette Rodriguez (11 months old) is killed and three other family members critically injured when DPS trooper Floyd Goodwin, without siren or emergency lights, hits family's car from behind as he races to another accident. Witnesses say Goodwin's speed was more than 100 mph when he hit the Rodriguez car. Goodwin was no-billed.
Kim Stuart, Taylor Stuart, 3, Kayla Stuart, 7, Rebecca Garza, 63, and Mary Gorena, 59, injured when a car being pursued by HPD and other law enforcement officers smashed into Stuart’s car, which spun into Gorena’s car. In the car being chased were five teenagers suspected of armed robbery. A 14-yr. old girl in the suspects’ car was also seriously injured. Teens charged with aggravated robbery, attempted murder and aggravated assault.
Derek Jason Kaeseman, w/m, 24, unarmed, killed when shot at 59 times by 7 HPD officers Sgt. Antonio R. Guzman, 40; Ruston K. Alsbrooks, 38; Scott W. Wilkins, 34; Marvin J. Manuel, 26; Tien "Tony" N. Nguyen, 29; Leopoldo Rubio-Ronso, 27; and Tony Tomeo, 34; after a low-speed car chase, the officers surrounded his pick-up truck, beat out the windows and beat him with their night sticks while still inside his vehicle.
Brian Cloud, age 4, killed when a car being chased by HPD patrol car for speeding, crashes into the car he was in.
Rolando Aleman, 27, killed when his pickup crashed into a utility pole while fleeing from HPD officers, who claim he was involved in a superficial stabbing at a club.
Marco Antonio Segura, 26, h/m; his wife, Gloria Diaz Segura, 23, h/f pregnant; and son, Marco Segura Jr., 3, h/m, killed when a van driven by Johnny J. Arguijo was being chased by Houston police officers in an unmarked car crashed into their car. Two bystanders were trapped under the Segura car when it overturned. This is the fourth high-speed chase by Houston police officers this year, bringing to seven the number of people killed in those chases. Although HPD policy prohibits high-speed chases by unmarked cars, Chief Sam Nuchia defends this one, saying the police were merely “following” the van and “the pursuit was necessary and the deaths of the individuals…were an unfortunate and tragic consequence.”
Juan Serna, 15, h/m, critically injured when he was thrown from the car; Lilliana Tamayo, 16, h/f, minor injuries; and Adrian DeLeon, 14, h/m, minor injuries. Serna, Tamayo and DeLeon were all passengers in the car driven by Juan Melendez, 15, h/m, and Ruby Garcia, 16, h/f, killed when they crashed their car into a utility pole during a chase by a Houston police officer. Police suspected their car was stolen, and they fled after being stopped.
Steven Floyd Lockridge, 32, killed while being chased by Houston police officers; his van was struck by a car driven by off-duty Ft. Bend sheriff’s deputy Kenneth Jerome Swan. Lockridge had tried to cash a forged stolen check, and the bank teller called police.
04/07/93 David Ball, Jr. 21, and Bujaj Haxhijaj, 20, killed in car crash after high speed chase by Harris County sheriff's deputies.
Anthony Carl Spiller, 15 yrs. old. On 10/15/86, Zell Ray Woods, b/m, a 4-yr. veteran police officer with Brookshire PD and a former military police officer, shot Anthony Carl Spiller. Spiller was a passenger in a pickup truck allegedly stolen by a 17-yr. old friend. Woods shot at the truck as he chased it at speeds up to 100 m.p.h. (It is unlawful for a peace officer to shoot at a fleeing suspect.) The truck crashed and the boys ran on foot. Woods chased and shot at them, hitting Spiller in the jaw. Investigators said they do not know why Woods fired at the unarmed teen.
